Newcastle United’s offer to sign James Trafford from Burnley has been rejected by the Turf Moor chiefs.
Chronicle Live understands that the Clarets have made their stance clear on the England Under-21 international’s price tag. The Cockermouth-born stopper could leave the Lancashire club after relegation but won’t be going anywhere at cut-price.
It is understood that Burnley are not interested in selling Trafford for an offer below what they paid Manchester City for his services just 12 months ago. That package was said to be worth around £15million but any potential sale will include a percentage clause back to Man City who were reluctant to sell a player deemed to be a full international one day.
So far it is believed that a package of around £16million was on offer from Newcastle but a price tag of around £20m is though to be closer to the tipping point. Trafford is currently earning around £40,000 per week with Burnley and personal terms with the Magpies will not be an issue.
United’s PSR health could be eased a little bit if they can move on Martin Dubravka this summer. The 35-year-old is currently tied up with international duty with Slovakia at the Euros in Germany.
Dubravka’s valuation enjoyed a boost with a clean sheet against world ranked number three outfit Belgium in the 1-0 win in Group E earlier this week.
