Newcastle United opted against risking Tino Livramento during the final weeks of the 2023-24 Premier League season
Tino Livramento has shared pictures of himself being put through his paces as he nears a comeback from an ankle injury.
Newcastle United’s highly-rated youngster missed the final two games of the season, with Eddie Howe unwilling to risk the right-back. The Magpies were wary of Livramento’s fitness throughout the campaign as, just months before his arrival, he returned from a serious ACL injury.
Toon fans were still given glimpses of the 21-year-old’s talents – most notably against Manchester City and Manchester United in the Carabao Cup. Livramento’s longest run in the team stretched from October to the new year – at the peak of Newcastle’s injury crisis.
“Tino is still struggling with his ankle,” Howe said. “That’s why he didn’t come onto the pitch. He was there for an emergency, really. Can he play at the weekend? I’m not sure.
“We certainly don’t want to give him a longer-term problem. He’s technically fit enough to be able to enter the pitch, but it’s sort of high risk. We want to make sure that we don’t give him a longer-term problem, but in terms of what happens moving forward, it probably depends on what other players I have available.”
Livramento has not published photos on Instagram getting a sweat on as he prepares for the 2024-25 campaign. The defender could be seen squatting while holding a kettlebell – less than two months before he faces his former club, Southampton, on the opening day.
