West Ham United are readying a £16.7million bid for Ajax ace Steven Bergwijn, according to CaughtOffside.
The news outlet reported on 15 July that the Hammers are preparing their opening bid for the Netherlands international.
It is said that this initial bid may not be enough, with Ajax potentially demanding a fee of up to £29.3million to do business in the coming weeks.
West Ham United ready Steven Bergwijn transfer
West Ham were let down by their strikers last season, with Michail Antonio and Danny Ings failing to lead the line well enough to even register double figures in goals.
Fortunately, both Mohammed Kudus and Jarrod Bowen were on top form and managed to carry David Moyes’ team to a ninth-placed finish.
Hence why Julen Loepetegui has already taken matters into his own hands and brought in Brazilian starlet, Luis Guilherme [the Athletic, 13 June].
He can play on either wing and will help alleviate the pressure on the shoulders of the aforementioned duo, with more potentially set to arrive.
Although Bergwijn’s last Premier League stint didn’t quite go to plan at Tottenham, he could be exactly what the Hammers need.
He can play across the front three and would no doubt become West Ham’s new focal point in the final third at the London Stadium.
This is certainly one to watch in the coming days.
In other West Ham news, the Hammers are also readying themselves for the transfer of a Serie A centre-back.
