Crystal Palace chairman Steve Parish has spoken out after the Eagles agreed to sell centre-back Joachim Andersen for £30m.
As Newcastle United continue to push for a deal for Marc Guehi the outgoing piece of business shows that the Eagles at least have a breaking point. But whether the structure of Newcastle’s proposal to Palace is the issue remains up for debate as the two clubs struggle to get a deal over the line.
Andersen – a former Newcastle transfer target – has joined Fulham after similarly long negotiations and it raises the question whether Palace are more or less likely to part with Guehi with even less defensive cover. Like Guehi, Andersen played in the 2-1 defeat at Brentford on the opening weekend of the season.
Parish, who is proving to be a tough negotiator, said today: “Joachim has been immense for the club over his three years at Palace, playing a part in some of our most memorable recent results. He leaves with the utmost respect of everyone here, and we wish him well for the future.”
When asked on Guehi’s status earlier, Oliver Glasner said: “Marc will lead the team as the captain tomorrow.
“I expect everyone being a Crystal Palace player until nobody tells me something different. Especially that player. Because at the end of the day it is always their decision.”
Palace look to be closing in on Maxence Lacroix of Wolfsburg after a £14m bid was accepted.
