Everton manager Sean Dyche faces an “impossible” job at Goodison Park this season, according to Alan Pardew.
The Toffees are without a win after their opening two games of the Premier League season after they were torn to shreds as Ange Postecoglou’s side ran out 4-0 winners on Saturday (24 August).
Reports also suggest that Newcastle United are eyeing a late bid for Dominic Calvert-Lewin [TBR Football, 25 August] and former Premier League manager Pardew believes selling the striker would only add to Dyche’s woes.
Speaking on talkSPORT on Sunday (25 August, 20:40) he said: “I’ve been in that situation at Newcastle and with a couple of teams.
“When you’re getting battered because you’re selling players and players are being talked about moving on, the rest of the squad is a little bit down and it starts to affect the performance.
“That’s definitely where Everton were yesterday and Sean Dyche, that’s almost impossible to manage.
“I’ve been there, you’re trying to lift them, you’re trying to put them in the right direction, but you need some positivity, you need a signing to go in there.
“If they lose the big fella, [Calvert-Lewin] I’m telling you they’ve got a very difficult season.”
Will Dominic Calvert-Lewin exit Everton amid Sean Dyche sack speculation?
As Pardew suggests, it has become incredibly difficult for Dyche to motivate this group of players because of the constant chatter and negativity around Goodison Park currently.
While a lot of that is because of the poor performances in the opening weeks of the campaign, a lot of the frustration from supporters stems from issues higher up the club as the current ownership saga rumbles on.
If Calvert-Lewin were to depart in the final days of the window, it would only increase the unrest around Merseyside currently, especially if the money wasn’t made available for the Blues to sign a replacement.

Whether it is a new signing or a win in the Carabao Cup, something needs to happen in the coming days to lift the mood around Everton sooner rather than later.
If it doesn’t, it feels as if this situation only ends one way for Dyche. Hopefully, he will find a way to turn it around and get some sections of the fanbase back onside.
