Everton’s former chief Keith Wyness has claimed the club’s third deduction could be worth “up to six points”.
Speaking on the new edition of Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, the 66-year-old – who served as CEO at Goodison Park between 2004 and 2009 and now runs a football consultancy advising elite clubs – revealed he is “hopeful” there will be a ruling in favour of the Toffees and their financial team.
Everton are set to face a possible third points penalty after being hit with two deductions worth two and six points in the 2023-24 campaign.
Premier League chiefs claim £6.5million, which was attributed to new stadium interest payments by club chiefs, should be added to the spending for the 2022-23 campaign and mean the club incur a further deduction under Profit and Sustainability Rules (PSR).
The Toffees have started the season with zero points from a possible nine, conceding 10 goals in the process.
Wyness ‘hopeful’ Everton will avoid ‘six-point’ deduction
Wyness told Football Insider‘s Insider Track podcast: “The Premier League and independent panel have to decide whether Everton’s auditors are correct or not.
“The auditors will bring evidence to back up their opinion.
“I’m hopeful that Everton can get through this charge and I’m expecting the hearing to happen pretty quickly.

“This will have a knock-on effect and it could be up to six points again.
“But because it’s a different type of charge and investigation, I’m quite hopeful there will be a ruling in favour of the auditors and Everton.”
