Given how much he admires his work at Newcastle United, it is no surprise that Jamie Carragher wants Eddie Howe to get the England job.
As soon as Gareth Southgate left his role with the FA, Jamie Carragher was pushing for Eddie Howe to replace him.

The Newcastle United manager is a leading contender for the job, but is currently focussed on his role at St James’ Park. At the moment, all the speculation surrounds Lee Carsley getting the England job on a permanent basis.
But the Toon boss is understandably still in the mix, and Carragher recently reinforced his desire for Howe to become England manager amid the uncertainty behind the scenes at St James’ Park.
Eddie Howe found a way for Newcastle United to nullify Manchester City
Carragher’s eagerness for Eddie Howe to manage the Three Lions is based on how well he has done at Newcastle United, and he once again showcased his elite coaching ability during Newcastle United’s 1-1 draw with Manchester City.

But Howe found a way to nullify them on Saturday, with Joelinton playing a huge role in the Magpies picking up a well deserved point.
The 28-year-old played a hybrid role, with his efforts off the ball pivotal towards ensuring Howe’s gameplan worked.

Jamie Carragher’s praise for Joelinton against Manchester City
Joelinton was brilliant against Manchester City, and the Brazilian has been praised by Carragher for his unique performance in a hybrid role on Sky Sports’ Monday Night Football.
“He had three different roles defensively, and that’s a lot of tactical instruction to take on for a player,” he said.
“He’s man-to-man marking. He’s high up the pitch, Newcastle United are man-to-man all over the pitch. That was Dan Burn pushing in.
“Now he [Joelinton] is actually looking after Rico Lewis, filling that space as a third centre-back. It’s almost like a back five. He’s dropping in that position, then he’s out to press Lewis then drops back into that hole to look after Gundogan.
“He’s left-sided centre-back in a back three. He’s now looking after Erling Haaland, being aggressive against him to stop him. He makes it difficult and that’s a vital role against Manchester City. I think a lot of teams should play three at the back against Manchester City for that reason.
“Now he’s actually swapped with Lewis Hall. He’s left wing-back. Different detail, different understanding of who you’re up against. They win the ball high and he gets back to his midfield position in a 4-3-3 because he’s got to get forward. He then gets on the overlap.
“I just thought it was fantastic.”
A return to form for Joelinton
Eddie Howe asked a lot of Joelinton, and he delivered.
It was a real return to form for a player who has endured a difficult start to the new Premier League season.
Joelinton was incredible during the opening day win over Southampton, but has struggled ever since. He has been nowhere near his best, with the Brazil international incredibly sloppy in possession.
That issue was still evident at times against Manchester City, with Joelinton giving the ball away in key areas. But the work he did off the ball made up for it, as he proved why he is such an important player for Howe.
Joelinton was asked to fulfil multiple roles, and it worked perfectly, just like it did when Howe asked Elliot Anderson to do similar against Tottenham Hotspur last season.
The Newcastle manager had clearly done a lot of work with the £40million man in the build-up to that game. He identified a way to nullify Man City, and tasked Joelinton with executing it. He will have been given a huge amount of tactical information, and it is clear that the Toon number seven took it all on board as he executed Howe’s plan to perfection.
That is a testament to Joelinton as a player, and Howe as a manager. Newcastle United are lucky to have both of them.
