Bryan King claims Anthony Gordon’s penalty “should have been retaken” during the 0-0 draw between Everton and Newcastle United at Goodison Park on Saturday (5 October).
The ex-Goodison scout doesn’t believe Jordan Pickford deserves any praise for keeping the penalty out.

Gordon stepped up to take a spot-kick against his former side in the 35th minute, with Pickford diving to his left and saving with his legs.
However, King – speaking exclusively to Goodison News – claims the forward should have had another chance.
“I’m surprised nobody said that he went too early,” King said.
“He moved far too early, it should have been retaken. Gordon is an ex-Everton player, they’ve been together for England. It was a big decision from Newcastle to allow him to take the penalty.
“Gordon was trying to concentrate, he was looking at the ball and had Pickford dancing around five yards away from him before going back on his goalline.
“I think he got psyched out a bit, it was a poor penalty. I can’t understand why Newcastle allowed Gordon to step forward in that situation, it was not a good decision.
“However, I’m not jumping up and down about Pickford, I thought he went too early and it should have been retaken.”

Pickford certainly did enough to put Gordon off at Goodison Park. Therefore, from an Everton perspective, they won’t care one bit about whether or not the penalty should have been retaken.
In addition, it is understandable why fans might poke fun at their former player.
However, it does seem unnecessary for the club to join in ridiculing the player. The Toffees posted the video of the forward missing the penalty, with a ‘buzzer’ sound added at a fan’s request (via Everton on X, 6 October).
This has drawn criticism from several people, and the club would be wise to perhaps take the video down.
