The January transfer window is going to be very important for Newcastle United.
After not making any major signings during the summer, Paul Mitchell is set for a fresh chance to make his mark as Newcastle United sporting director.

Newcastle still want a right-sided centre-back, and they still want a right winger, with neither arriving during the summer. Mitchell failed to sign Marc Guehi from Crystal Palace, while Newcastle’s late bid for Anthony Elanga was rejected by Nottingham Forest.
As it stands, the Magpies are coping without the arrival of Guehi. However, it is clear that Newcastle could do with a winger – someone who is an upgrade on Miguel Almiron and Jacob Murphy.

And it looks like Newcastle United are going to try and address that situation in Janaury.
According to iNews, Newcastle’s priority for the January transfer window is to sign a right winger.
That is very exciting, although it remains to be seen who Paul Mitchell will target. You would assume that Elanga will be an option, after the Magpies tried to sign him in the summer.
Newcastle were also linked with Noni Madueke and Jarrod Bowen during the summer transfer window, but they will probably remain unattainable.
It might be that Toon officials look further afield, with Mitchell eager to expand Newcastle’s recruitment pool.

That could lead them to France, where Newcastle have got their eye on a striker.
iNews report that Newcastle United are interested in Jonathan David, who is in the final year of his Lille contract.
He could either be available for a bargain fee in January or on a free transfer in the summer. Either way, it feels inevitable that David is going to change clubs.
That could give the Magpies an opportunity, and Geordie Boot Boys have been told that Newcastle have spoken to David’s representatives.
Now iNews are also reporting on Newcastle’s interest in David, and he is certainly an exciting target to keep an eye on.
He would be an incredible replacement for Callum Wilson, with the 24-year-old enjoying an excellent start to the season.
The Canadian striker, who has previously been described as a ‘superstar‘, has scored eight goals in 13 appearances for Lille this season, with David recently scoring the winner against Real Madrid in the Champions League.
That was a special night for David, who is set to be a man in demand in 2025. Newcastle are in the conversation to sign him, but Mitchell will first look to address the Magpies’ right winger conundrum.
