Yankuba Minteh is relishing his return to Newcastle United this weekend – even though he never got to kick a ball at St James’ Park during his 12-month stay.
Minteh, still just 20, will be back on Tyneside just three months after his £33million exit from United when his transfer was pushed through hastily to avoid a points deduction. The right winger looks to have found his feet already at Brighton despite adjusting to the Premier League after playing in Holland and Denmark respectively in recent years.
The winger’s agent, who initially got him a trial with Odense before a successful loan move to Feyenoord, told Chronicle Live before the game: “Yankuba told me before the international break that he is looking forward to finally playing at St James’ Park.

“Hopefully he will get a good reception even though he never played a game in a Newcastle jersey.”

His boss Fabian Hurzeler has been delighted with Minteh’s progress and believes the winger will only get better. Speaking about his progress so far the 31-year-old said: “I have a clear motto. When you always give 100 percent in training, you are counter pressing and always trying to improve every day, then you will perform like this in matches.
“He’s a role model for that. I hope he can show the same performance in the Premier League.”

Hurzeler has also underlined his admiration for Eddie Howe in the build-up to Saturday’s 3pm kick off. The pair have never faced each other before with the former Bayern Munich youth team player commenting: “He’s a great coach. I have big respect for him, I’m really looking forward to competing with him. It will be tough there because Newcastle play quite intensely.”
