Theo Walcott though, who actually played alongside the English marksman for a period with the Toffees, had little sympathy for his £100k-a-week compatriot.
In fact, he even noted: ‘Calvert-Lewin here. So, a very isolated figure in today’s game. Bassey and Diop, who were tremendous all game, they bullied him all game. They really did.
‘They put him in a position where he found it really difficult to actually make an impact on the game.’
Everton fans actually felt sorry for Calvert-Lewin though, given the lack of service he was afforded.
The worst Everton have played in years
Last night, without a doubt, was one of the most spineless, pitiful Premier League performances in recent memory for Everton.
It’s more than okay to have an off day where every pass and shot doesn’t come off, as these players are only human.
On a technical level, every once in a while, things are bound to go awry.
However, when these same stars shirk their defensive responsibilities, and opt out of tackles or refuse to do their running, then there is a problem.
And Goodison Park is famed for letting them know.
Were it not for Beto’s late equaliser, the home crowd was preparing to unload on their team, who had barely even troubled the visitors.

Dwight McNeil, Jack Harrison and Abdoulaye Doucoure were three particularly underwhelming performers, who contributed to this horror show which was salvaged at the death.
Hopefully, the onlooking Everton manager will be minded to ring the changes for Southampton.
