Tottenham Hotspur are ‘bracing’ for loan offers for young midfielder Archie Gray this January as the 18-year-old struggles for game time in the Premier League following his summer move from Leeds United.
The player has managed just 41 minutes in the top flight across five appearances this term as Ange Postecoglou eases him into the division. Gray has started every Europa League and Carabao Cup fixture for Spurs this season.
The rising star has earned praise from Postecoglou for his versatility, playing at full-back in some European matches. Speaking after the match against Galatasaray, the manager said: “You can only allow them to learn that by exposing them to it. I thought Archie was great. It was a tough game for us defensively at different times but I think we’ll get so much growth out of him because he’s not playing in his position.”
Leeds United saw their homegrown talent make the move to North London for £40 million ahead of the 2024/25 campaign after a breakthrough season at Elland Road last time out. Gray played over 4,000 minutes of football in all competitions last term and his lack of minutes is thought to have Spurs preparing for a flurry of loan offers in the New Year, according to the Yorkshire Post.
However, as per GiveMeSport, Tottenham Hotspur and Gray have ‘no interest’ in a temporary move away from the club with the player determined to fight his way into Postecoglou’s XI as the team struggles for consistency.
The midfielder has spoken positively about the Aussie boss despite his lack of Premier League minutes. In September, Gray said that the coach was helping him to be ‘fearless’ in his football.
He said: “I’m really grateful to have the manager we’ve got. I’m a big fan of him. I’m grateful to have him here and to learn so much off him, it’s a big opportunity for me.
“To hear stuff like that from him, it makes you trust yourself even more and have more confidence to go out there and be fearless. That’s what he wants from us and hopefully, we can go out and do that every game we’re trusted to be in.”
