This bring us on to AC Milan’s Fikayo Tomori, who has been heavily linked with a winter move to St James’ Park by the Italian press today.
According to Calciomercato, Juventus are interested in signing the 26-year-old but face serious competition from Newcastle, who are thought to be leading the race for his signature next month.
Tomori was linked with the club over the summer, with he and Milan teammate Malick Thiaw mentioned in several transfer reports prior to a host of August bids for Crystal Palace’s Marc Guehi.
Calciomercatio report that Tomori was previously valued at around €30m, but it’s thought Milan may be willing to cash in on the former Chelsea talent for a lower fee following his reduction in game time this season.
Tomori has been an unused substitute in four of Milan’s last six games, managing just 11 minutes in that time after losing his spot in the starting 11.
As a result, appears as though he’ll be available in January and he would certainly offer a cut-price alternative to Guehi, but is Tomori the upgrade we’re crying out for and good enough to be Fabian Schar’s long-term replacement?
I’m not so sure and I wouldn’t be surprised if the Italian media (if not Milan) are using Newcastle’s name to push Juventus to make an early move in January.
Stranger things have happened and he does tick some boxes based on price, his pace and Premier League experience, but I think we’ll be aiming slightly higher than Tomori if and when we look to sign Sven Botman’s future partner next year.
