Newcastle United legend Alan Shearer was furious after the Magpies’ 4-2 defeat to Brentford on Saturday.
Eddie Howe’s side failed to capitalise on the momentum they built up on Wednesday, as Newcastle’s 3-3 draw with Liverpool was followed by a defeat away from home.

Newcastle United were simply not good enough yet again – a recurring theme this season.
Defensively, the Magpies were appalling. Individual errors continue to cost Eddie Howe’s side, as they shipped four goals to Brentford.
Going into this game, Newcastle had won five in a row against the Bees, but they were no match for Thomas Frank’s team on this occasion.

It was a decent first half for Newcastle, who looked good offensively. Eddie Howe had vowed to make Newcastle more attacking, and they have been that during their previous two games.
But their defensive solidity has gone completely missing. Harvey Barnes gave the ball away needlessly for Brentford’s second, while Joelinton was ball watching for their third.
They were unacceptable mistakes, and Alan Shearer has admitted on X that Brentford were worthy winners at the Gtech Community Stadium.
Shearer wrote: “Brentford worthy winners. Much better team. Newcastle were hopeless defensively, and that’s being kind!!”

Newcastle United are in big trouble ahead of Leicester clash
As Shearer says, Brentford were the much better team on Saturday afternoon. The Magpies never got going in the second half, as they slumped to yet another shocking defeat.
From the highs of the draw with Liverpool, this is a real low. It is growing tiresome, as Newcastle only seem to get up for games when they are against one of the ‘big six’. The performance against Brentford was a complete contrast to what Eddie Howe’s players served up on Wednesday night.
It is a very worrying trend, and Newcastle have now only won two of their last 11 Premier League games. For a club that knows they need to get back in the Champions League, that is not acceptable.
After losing to Brentford, Newcastle miss the chance to move back into the top half of the Premier League. They are now under immense pressure to win their next game, as the Magpies prepare to take on Leicester City at St James’ Park on December 14th.
