Dan Ashworth could be a “viable option” for Everton after his Manchester United departure, Ian Croll says.
The Reach journalist has suggested that The Friedkin Group could look at the former Red Devils director if Kevin Thelwell, who could be at risk of getting sacked, doesn’t extend his contract.
Ashworth has built up a pedigree in English football after his work with Brighton and Newcastle, but his stint at Old Trafford lasted just five months, with Dan Friedkin possibly completing his Everton takeover in December [Alan Myers, 7 December].
On his personal X account [8 December], Croll wrote: “Surprising to see Dan Ashworth has left his role as sporting director at Manchester United.
“Not sure of his circumstances, however considering his work at Brighton and the FA previously, you’d expect him to be a viable option for the Friedkins if Thelwell isn’t offered a new deal.”

The Toffees’ recruitment over recent years has been below par, and Thelwell hasn’t done himself any favours with the business done in recent transfer windows.

Sean Dyche currently has his team hovering above the relegation zone, and the Toffees could soon find themselves at risk of going down to the Championship with a tough set of fixtures ahead.
Everton were supposed to face Liverpool at Goodison on Saturday [7 December], but the game was postponed due to Storm Darragh.
The Blues can’t rest as they have Arsenal, Chelsea and Manchester City as their next opponents in the Premier League.
While the Goodison faithful have hope that the Blues will survive the drop, the threat remains.
TFG need to make sweeping changes at the Merseyside outfit once they arrive, and the first decision they may have to make is over the future of Dyche.
The impending new owners will no doubt already be looking at the failing structure of the club, and there may be no better man than Ashworth out there to help turn things around.
