Derby transfer news latest as enquiries made and rivals emerge for target

Championship promotion contenders Middlesbrough are in the chase for reported Derby County target Louie Barry.

Derby were yesterday linked with the Aston Villa talent who is currently on loan at League One outfit Stockport County. Barry is a wanted man after a stunning start to the season with the forward having already bagged 15 goals this season.

Villa are now reportedly contemplating sending him to the Championship to help his development which has put a number of clubs on red alert. Derby are said to be one club keen on the attacker who can play down the middle or out wide. But Middlesbrough are also said to be strong contenders for his signature with Sheffield Wednesday having also been linked.

Paul Warne says he has had a couple of “casual” enquiries for players who could leave Derby County in next month’s transfer window. Derby will have to ship players out to bring players in with the club currently at their 25-man squad limit.

There are several players in the squad whose chances of first-team football are remote with striker Conor Washington, who has yet to feature this season, among them.

Warne said he has told the players for whom he has received enquiries to make them aware of their options ahead of what is a pivotal month.

“I’ve had a couple of casual conversations, is probably the nicest way to say it,” he said. “Manager to manager it’s a case of what do you think is happening there? And I’m sort of saying, well, at the moment he’s probably not playing. I think he’s looking to move on. By all means, speak to his agent. I haven’t said that he’s definitely going.

“I always like my players to be fully aware of what’s out there and I never want to lie to them and not tell them that there’s been an interest. If I ever get a bit of a sniff, I always pass it on to them, not to disrupt them, but just so if they ever knock on my door, I can say, look, I’ve told you everything if they say you didn’t tell me this or that.”
