West Ham United Places Bid for Carney Chukwuemeka as replacement for want-to-leave star, Maresca now worried

West Ham United are interested in Chelsea midfielder Carney Chukwuemeka ahead of the upcoming transfer window, according to Caught Offside.

The news outlet reports [17 December] that Enzo Maresca is “concerned” about the midfielder’s lack of game time at the Blues, and the Hammers could solve those worries.

While the West London club are looking to send the 21-year-old out on loan, they could be persuaded to sell him, with an asking price of around £20million on his head.

Chelsea haven’t received offers yet, and it remains to be seen what the Irons’ plan for the January window is, with Guido Rodriguez attracting interest from Real Betis [Eduardo Burgos, 12 December].

West Ham United shouldn’t prioritise Carney Chukwuemeka transfer in January

Julen Loptegui could arguably be on the chopping block in the coming weeks, which isn’t an ideal scenario going into the transfer window.

The Hammers seemingly need to strengthen key positions in the squad, and the priority should be bringing in a number nine.

After being involved in a road traffic accident, Michail Antonio will likely be out for the rest of the season.

Niclas Fullkrug’s summer move to West Ham has also not worked out yet, although the German has returned to action in the last few games after his fitness issues.

Whether or not Lopetegui remains at the helm, the Irons will surely need to add reinforcements up front in January.

Chukwuemeka was one of the biggest prospects during his time at Aston Villa, but the Englishman hasn’t featured in the Premier League in the current campaign.

While a loan deal wouldn’t hurt the Hammers’ pockets as much in the coming month, the focus should be on signing a striker before approaching the midfielder.
