Yellow balloons were released by Tottenham supporters during tonight’s Carabao Cup quarter-final match to demonstrate their support for Emily Damari, a British citizen who is being held in Gaza. Emily, a 28-year-old Tottenham fan, has been held captive for a staggering 440 days.
She was kidnapped on October 7 and last seen alive on January 20. Emily had frequently visited her family in the UK, where she also enjoys shopping and visiting pubs.
On the night of her abduction from Kfar Aza kibbutz, she was allegedly shot in the hand, blindfolded, and transported to Gaza. Tottenham fans organized a rally outside their stadium before the match against Aston Villa on November 3rd, calling for Emily’s release and distributing flyers featuring a photo of her proudly wearing a Tottenham scarf.
Chants of “She’s one of our own” echoed through the crowd. Emily’s mother, Mandy Damari, who grew up in Beckenham, met with politicians in London earlier this month to push for increased efforts to free her daughter and the other 100 hostages still being held, reports the Mirror.
In a heart-wrenching interview with the BBC, Mandy expressed her deep fears, stating: “I fear that she’s dead. And if she’s not dead, she’s not getting enough food to eat, she’s not able to wash herself, drink water, she could be ill.”
“She’s suffering from gunshot wounds to her hand and her leg… I worry every day, I worry every second because in the next second, she could be murdered, just because she’s there.”
