Dan Burn’s unseen moment of class after Newcastle United’s second goal vs Nottingham Forest

Newcastle United’s second goal against Nottingham Forest was all about Alexander Isak’s flick, Lewis Hall’s determination and Jacob Murphy’s vital touch.
The goal from Jacob Murphy put the Magpies ahead on Sunday, as Newcastle United beat Nottingham Forest 4-3 at St James’ Park.

It was a thrilling game of football. Alan Shearer enjoyed Newcastle’s first half display, while the second half was a complete contrast.
But Newcastle got the job done thanks to an 11-minute blitz, scoring four goals out of nowhere.

Jacob Murphy got the goal that put the Magpies in front, and the build-up play before the winger bundled it in was beautiful.
Anthony Gordon played a clever pass into Alexander Isak, whose glorious backheel allowed Hall to race in behind.
A stroke of luck allowed Murphy to make it 2-1, but Newcastle made their own luck as Eddie Howe’s players celebrated wildly in front of the Gallowgate.
However, Dan Burn was not involved.
That was because he immediately ran back towards Nick Pope, celebrating with the man who kickstarted the move.
Had it not been for Pope’s quick thinking, Newcastle might not have scored. He saved a tame effort from Callum Hudson-Odoi, before immediately bowling the ball out to Gordon.
It allowed Newcastle to start a swift counterattack, hitting Forest on the break before they could get back into their shape.
It was excellent distribution from Pope, and it was great to see Burn give him his flowers.
Nick Pope responded after Newcastle United error
Pope launched the attack that allowed Newcastle to take the lead. He also played a part in the Magpies’ fourth goal, quickly rolling it out to Lewis Hall so that the space down the left could be exploited.
Eddie Howe will have been delighted with his goalkeeper’s distribution, as Nick Pope returned to the starting XI.
It was a controversial decision to replace Martin Dubravka, and it quickly looked like a mistake when Nottingham Forest took the lead.
While the goal came from Jacob Murphy cheaply giving away possession, Pope did not cover himself in glory. His positioning for Hudson-Odoi’s goal was shocking, showing real rustiness on his first Premier League appearance since December 2024.
But Pope atoned for his error, as Newcastle United picked up a vital three points.
After the game, Pope took to his official Instagram account.
He wrote: “Crazy & scrappy but +3 just how we like it!!”
Now Pope will hoping he can avoid any more errors, as Newcastle United players compete for places in the Carabao Cup final starting XI.
The England international has reclaimed his place in the side, and the gloves now appear to be his to lose.
