While first-team signings are wanted this month should outgoings allow it, Newcastle United are also in the market for future stars able to join our ever-improving Under-21 set up.

Young winger set to join in January
Kyle Fitzgerald will officially complete his move from Galway United to join Newcastle on a professional contract on January 28.
NUFCBlog.co.uk revealed in August that we had came to an agreement for the Irishman, with the Chronicle now confirming that he will go straight into our U21s when he turns 18 on the day that the deal becomes official.
Brighton and Wolves were also interested in the left-winger who will settle in on Tyneside in 2025, but there is a feeling that there is a genuine pathway to the first team for Fitzgerald who has already been capped at ROI youth level.

Academy investment alive and well
Naturally it is a good sign we’ve pipped Brighton to a deal, as they’re notoriously good at making smart deals and finding some of the best young talent, particularly in Ireland.
Fitzgerald will face stiff competition on the left from Trevan Sanusi, who has generated a lot of excitement with likens to Allan Saint-Maximin and is one of the closest to earning a first team call-up.
Sanusi arrived from Birmingham in the summer of 2023 and has “impressed staff”, showing that players who sign for the Toon academy setup can be considered for first team opportunities.
We have really expanded with Fitzgerald’s move following the likes of Leo Shahar and Michael Mills, who have both impressed since joining from Wolves and Port Vale respectively, and Rory Finneran who switched to black-and-white after being Blackburn’s youngest ever first team player.
