It’d be fair to say that Tino Livramento is over some of the early season struggles he endured at Newcastle United.

Livramento was a revelation last season but, like most at Newcastle United, started the 2024-25 campaign relatively slowly.

He was by no means a disaster but Livramento had been questioned defensively at times – albeit he was far from alone in that.

Recently, however, the 22-year-old has returned to his very best form.

Livramento was brilliant in the Carabao Cup final, pocketing Mohamed Salah in a way few other defenders have managed this season.

Operating at left-back after Lewis Hall was ruled out for the rest of the season with an ankle injury, Newcastle fans have been impressed.

Newcastle beat Leicester 3-0 on Monday and while Livramento was hardly tested on a defensive footing, supporters believe he’s looking better at left-back than he did at right-back earlier this season.

That’s largely the position from which he shone last time out too, albeit replacing Hall there on a full-time basis looks unlikely given the latter’s excellence.

Still, Livramento provided the assist from which Jacob Murphy scored the opener on Monday night from his left-back berth and supporters on social media platform X were delighted.

“Tino Livramento is a better left back than he is a right back. I said it,” added another supporter.

One fan said: “TINO LIVRAMENTO AT LEFT BACK – YOU HAVE ROCKED MY WORLD.”

“Tino Livramento could genuinely be a better left-back than a right-back,” claimed one fan.

Another comment read: “Tino Livramento showed tonight that he is able to comfortably invert in-possession. He’s looking like a complete left back for #nufc.”

“Set up the first goal and superb throughout. He gets better every game and is looking better at left back than he is right back,” was another claim.

One fan added: “I can’t be the only one who thinks Tino is a better left back than right back. Another brilliant performance for the lad.”

The defender also helped tee up Alexander Isak’s goal in the Carabao Cup final with a cross from the left, overlapping Harvey Barnes before floating in a cross that Murphy eventually knocked down.

Eddie Howe has been impressed with the Livramento and Barnes partnership, surely meaning Anthony Gordon faces a battle to get back into the team.

Gordon is still injured for Newcastle anyway but the idea of him just suddenly replacing Barnes in the team somewhat unlikely.

Livramento might revert to right-back next season when Hall returns but, for now, he’s proving a brilliant replacement.
