Bryan Mbeumo update – Sky Sports reporter reveals club set to rival Newcastle in 2025

Newcastle will face stiff competition over the signing of Bryan Mbeumo if we opt to pursue to Brentford winger in 2025.
We have a well-reported interest in the Cameroonian, who is thought to be hugely admired by Toon chiefs but out of our price range this month, making a summer bid for the 25-year-old more likely.
Jacob Murphy has been in superb form in recent weeks, setting up a number of goals for star man Alexander Isak. This may lessen our desperation to sign a new right-winger this month, although we can fully expect to pursue a first-team upgrade this summer if not in January.
Newcastle facing stiff competition for Bryan Mbeumo?
According to Sky Sports’ Florian Plettenberg, Newcastle target Bryan Mbeumo has been added to Arsenal’s shortlist of targets heading into 2025.
The Athletic, The Telegraph and the iPaper have all credited Newcastle with interest in the Brentford star in recent months, although the general consensus is a January deal will be too expensive.
Plettenberg reported: “Understand that Bryan Mbeumo is on Arsenal’s shortlist for a potential summer transfer. The Gunners are looking to strengthen their wing position. Brentford’s star player is under contract until 2026, with 13 goals and three assists in the current Premier League season.”
If Arsenal are going to make a move for the winger this month then it is highly unlikely we will have near the financial capabilities to challenge them considering our precarious position with PSR, But if we are to free up funds this month or at the end of the season, Mbeumo is exactly the profile we need.
The Mirror have also reported on Man Ut’s interest in the Cameroonian. However, in that piece, chief reporter Jeremy Cross states that the Red Devils must wait until the summer to sign the in-form winger.
One to watch this summer?
If we secure Champions League football and sell a few of our fringe players then we should have plenty of money to spend in summer, putting a move for Mbeumo back on the agenda – but Arsenal will be fierce competition if they are indeed interested.
With that being said, surely the right wing position in Arsenal is secured for the long-term future with Bukayo Saka prominent in that position. Would Mbeumo really come into the fold as second fiddle? Surely not.
Man Utd remain a big pull to some, but they are on course to miss out on Europe; something Mbeumo would surely demand if and when he leaves the Bees.
Over to the red side of Merseyside the future of Liverpool’s superstar winger Mo Salah has been questioned in recent months, although contract talks are ongoing with the Egyptian. Mbeumo could be an option for Arne Slot’s side – already being used to playing in a high-pace team.
Even if we were in the healthiest of financial positions then securing Mbeumo would be a big ask with several big Premier League sides bound to have him on their radar, but that’s the kind of company we’re keeping nowadays.
