Everton are in advanced talks to secure the services of Flamengo full-back Wesley, according to Thiago Asmar.
The Pilhado Esportes journalist shared on YouTube on 3 January which was then translated by Olho No Lance presenter and Rubro News TV journalist-cum-founder Julio Miguel Neto, to his 54k followers on X that the Toffees are expected to make a bid in the region of £16.5million and £24.8million.
The 21-year-old plays as a right-back and the Toffees are understood to be keen on bringing in a full-back this month with the takeover by The Friedkin Group completed.
Neto wrote on X: “Everton are yet another English club showing interest in signing full-back Wesley.
“According to journalist Thiago Asmar, a source close to the athlete revealed that negotiations are advanced and are just waiting for the decision of Flamengo’s board. The new offer should be between 20 and 30 million euros.
“Additionally, a fourth European club is also in the running, but its identity has yet to be revealed.”
Everton are taking a huge gamble with Wesley
The Toffees need a right-back but signing a 21-year-old who has no experience outside Brazil is a huge risk.
Given the amount that has been mentioned, it’s certainly mouth-watering as he’s relatively unknown among fans of European clubs.
He made his debut in Brazil’s first division back in 2021 and little over three years of experience there may not be enough to prove he’s good enough for the Premier League.
While he may have a high ceiling, if the Toffees have that much money to spend, they should rather sign someone who can immediately strengthen their playing eleven.
Ashley Young has been the go-to right-back but he will be turning 40 and cannot be relied upon as the first choice anymore.

It remains to be seen whether or not the Toffees actually follow up with an offer for the Brazilian full-back.
