Everton chase Kyle Walker-Peters as sources drop £7m transfer update

Everton are interested in signing Kyle Walker-Peters from Southampton this month, according to TEAMtalk.

The outlet reported via their website (13 January) that the full-back has emerged as a target for the Toffees after deciding not to extend his contract with the Saints beyond the summer.

Sources have told TEAMtalk that Southampton would “seriously” consider a £7million bid for the Englishman, but that price tag has put the Merseyside-based club off.

Former Saints boss Russell Martin was full of praise for Walker-Peters at the start of the season.

Former Saints boss Russell Martin was full of praise for the former Tottenham defender at the start of the season.

“He’s a top player. I don’t need to say it. He was brilliant for us last season”, Martin told a fans’ forum, as quoted by the Daily Echo (13 August 2024).

“Some of the stuff he can do with the ball, I can only dream of.”

Everton to snub interest in “brilliant” Kyle Walker-Peters

Walker-Peters has been on Southampton’s books since 2020 and continues to be an important player for them, having made 19 appearances across all competitions this season. He has two assists to this name so far.

However, it appears he is prepared to end his five-year spell at St. Mary’s, with the Saints placed bottom of the Premier League table 20 games.

The Englishman, though, may have to wait until the summer to seal a transfer as the Hampshire-based club look set to price him out of a move this month.

While £7m is not an excessive amount for a 27-year-old with significant Premier League experience, Everton deem it too much for someone in the final six months of their contract and understandably so.

However, the Merseyside-based club are in the market for a new right-back and a left-back.

Walker-Peters’ ability to play on either side makes him an interesting target for David Moyes’ side.

It is worth noting that the Toffees’ interest in the right-back is not new as they have continuously been linked with him over the years.
