Nicolas Jackson
The Premier League have issued a statement addressing Nicolas Jackson’s sending off for Chelsea during their match against Newcastle United on Sunday afternoon. The two sides met in a clash for Champions League football at St. James’ Park and the Blues’ chances of finishing in the top five and qualifying for the European tournament took a significant hit as their striker was shown a straight red card in the first half.
Initially shown a yellow card for what appeared to be an accidental collision with Sven Botman, replays showed that Jackson actually looked at the defender before leaning in with an elbow shortly before he struck the Newcastle star in the head. As a result, he was shown a straight red card and will miss the remainder of the season for Enzo Maresca’s men. Now, the Premier League themselves have released a statement addressing the incident.

Success and Europa League qualification haven’t been the only incentives for Chelsea to win the Conference League this year.
The Premier League Described the Foul as Serious Foul Play
Nicolas Jackson
Shortly after Jackson’s yellow card was overturned and replaced with a straight sending off, the Premier League addressed the situation via a statement on social media. Posting on X (Twitter), they described the foul as ‘serious’, posting:
“VAR checked the referee’s call of yellow card to Jackson – and deemed that the challenge by Jackson on Botman was a serious foul play offence, therefore recommended an on-field review. The referee then upgraded the yellow to a red card.”
With no striker on the bench, the Blues were forced to play the remainder of the match without a forward in the side. This season, Jackson has scored 10 goals for Chelsea in the Premier League. Only Cole Palmer (15) has found the back of the net more for the club. Now, though, the striker will have to sit on the sidelines and watch on as they face off against Manchester United and Nottingham Forest. His absence could be the difference between them making it to the Champions League and missing out entirely, losing an incredible amount of money as a result.

Newcastle United fans less than happy after official club announcement

Newcastle United have officially announced new plans for their pre-season, with another away trip on the cards.
The Magpies are looking to be as ready as they can be for the 2025/26 campaign off the back of what looks to be an immensely successful season.
In the 2024/25 campaign, Newcastle United won the Carabao Cup and overcame adversity at the beginning of the Premier League season. Champions League qualification could be just a couple of games away for Eddie Howe’s side. Qualification for Europe’s top competition would surely round off a memorable campaign.
With the season nearing its conclusion, club officials are now looking at what pre-season will look like for the Magpies. It has been confirmed that Newcastle will play Arsenal in Singapore this summer, with the game set to take place in the country’s 55,000-seater national stadium.
On Tuesday, it was then reported that Newcastle will face Celtic for the Adidas Trophy, the first game of its kind.
With another pre-season friendly locked in, Newcastle fans have taken to social media to share their thoughts on the announcement.

Newcastle United fans react to Celtic pre-season friendly announcement
It will be the first time Newcastle have played Celtic in Glasgow since 2004. The Hoops beat the Mapgies 2-1 on that occasion, so fans will be hoping for a much better result 21 years later.
Howe is pleased Newcastle will play Celtic in July, with the 47-year-old saying that it is a “great opportunity” to prepare for tougher opponents in Europe next season.

The Adidas Trophy means there could be some sort of financial incentive for both clubs by playing the game, but some Newcastle fans are far from pleased with the fixture announcement.
“This should go straight to general sale… yet again fans without STs miss out,” said one Newcastle supporter, while another added: “No one is purchasing a pre-season ticket if we don’t qualify for UCL.”
Why are a lot of preseason matches now for some pointless trophy. Anyway sort the rest of the Asia games out man so I can sort my flights, prices are going up as each week passes.

This Newcastle fan was far from pleased with the friendly’s prize, saying: “It’s all about sponsorship cups instead of competitive tournaments these days.”
“Need to win this, we will be the only club to ever hold all 3 of the big trophies at once. (Sela, Adidas and Carabao). More history to be made,” another fan jokingly said.
Another fan added: “Removed replays in FA Cup etc just so teams can do sponsorship ‘cup’ matches. Had nothing to do with’ too many games – then.”
Finally, this frustrated fan said: “Mark my words, Mitchell won’t bring a single player until August. We will play Burn Schar in that tournament too.”
Newcastle United fans could see new signings debut vs Celtic
As it stands, the trip to Glasgow will be Newcastle’s first pre-season game. In the meantime, it is believed that Newcastle will return to the Adidas training complex in Germany. The Magpies made the trip over to the state-of-the-art complex in 2024.
While the fan may not believe it, Mitchell wants Newcastle’s transfer business done early. The sporting director is set to embark on his first full summer transfer window after joining the club in July 2024 – there are big expectations from the fans.
Newcastle want to upgrade several positions this summer, including goalkeeper, centre-back and on the wing. With the fixture being in July, the transfer window will be open for over a month by the time the friendly comes around. There is a good chance that Howe will have new players at his disposal when the friendly comes around.
Earlier this year, reports suggested Newcastle wanted Celtic winger Nicolas Kuhn. However, recent performances have led Chris Sutton to tell Newcastle not to sign Kuhn.
_Jamie O’Hara’s Surprise Praise for Newcastle Star Harvey Barnes After Impressive Display Against Brentford_
Former Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Jamie O’Hara has never been shy about sharing his opinions on the beautiful game. However, in a surprising turn of events, O’Hara has praised Newcastle United star Harvey Barnes for the first time, following his impressive display against Brentford.
A Dominant Performance
Barnes, who joined Newcastle United from Leicester City, put in a dominant performance against Brentford, earning a 7.9 rating for his efforts. His pace, skill, and work rate caused problems for the Brentford defense throughout the match, and O’Hara was quick to praise his display.
O’Hara’s Praise
“I’ve been critical of Harvey Barnes in the past, but I have to give him credit where credit is due,” O’Hara said. “He was absolutely phenomenal against Brentford. His pace and skill were a nightmare for the Brentford defense to deal with, and he fully deserved his 7.9 rating.”
A Change of Heart?
O’Hara’s praise for Barnes may come as a surprise to some, given his previous criticism of the Newcastle United star. However, it’s clear that Barnes’ performance against Brentford has won O’Hara over, and the former Tottenham Hotspur midfielder is now a believer in the winger’s abilities.
Eddie Howe’s Impact
Newcastle United manager Eddie Howe also deserves credit for getting the best out of Barnes. Howe’s tactics and guidance have helped Barnes to flourish, and his performance against Brentford was a testament to the manager’s influence.
A Bright Future Ahead?
With Barnes in top form, Newcastle United fans will be hoping that he can maintain his level of performance. If he can, then the Magpies may have a bright future ahead, with Barnes playing a key role in their success.
Conclusion
Jamie O’Hara’s surprise praise for Harvey Barnes is a testament to the Newcastle United star’s impressive display against Brentford. With O’Hara now a believer in Barnes’ abilities, the winger will be looking to continue his good form and help Newcastle United achieve success in the Premier League.
