Newcastle United defender makes request to leave after change of heart at St James’ Park

One Newcastle United academy star has decided it would be best if he leaves the club this month.
Eddie Howe has found a brilliant balance in his Newcastle United squad in recent weeks, with the Magpies pursuing a ninth consecutive win when they face Wolves on Wednesday night.

After a few tweaks in midfield, including a deeper role for Sandro Tonali, Howe has now found his strongest XI at Newcastle – many of which were rested for the 3-1 win over Bromley in the FA Cup.
That provided a chance for Howe to hand Trevan Sanusi his senior debut after he has impressed in the academy. But the incredible momentum built up by the first team means there has been little space for other academy stars to break through.
Alex Murphy was named on the bench for the Bromley FA Cup clash but the 20-year-old failed to make it onto the pitch.

Alex Murphy requests loan exit at Newcastle United
Murphy made his senior Newcastle debut last season when he came off the bench against Chelsea in the Premier League. His only other first-team appearance came in a late cameo against Sheffield United.
Howe has not handed Murphy a single appearance this season, and the Irish defender has now decided it would be best to go out on loan.
In December, reports claimed Newcastle planned to loan out Murphy. The plan was to send the young defender away to gather first-team experience after the Bromley match.
Murphy has now spoken about his future and revealed he wants to leave on loan. As quoted by Shields Gazette, he said: “I want to show what I can do in men’s football and I feel I am at that stage to do that.
“A year or two ago, I wanted the same thing but I then got called up into Newcastle’s first team and you didn’t care about that because you were getting that experience here and training with the squad.
“I’m at the point where I need to go out and play every week, showing what I can do, but we’ll see what happens.”
However, Murphy still has his sights set on becoming a star at Newcastle: “I want to get as many games under my belt as possible and then, hopefully, the aim is to play here [at Newcastle] every week.”
Murphy has attracted Championship interest, and he has now opened the door to a move.
Newcastle United make Jamie Miley loan decision
In the same week that Lewis Miley starred for Newcastle against Bromley, the Magpies have made a decision on his older brother Jamie.
Jamie Miley was sent on loan to Newport County at the start of the season, and Miley’s League Two debut went well.

However, Miley’s loan spell has been plagued by injury and he has only made six league appearances for the club this season.
Newcastle have now decided to recall Miley in January. Just as Murphy heads out the door on loan, Miley will return to Tyneside. It is yet to be seen if Newcastle plan to loan out Miley to a different club for the second half of the 2024/25 campaign.
