That could be about to happen, with Miguel Almiron set to leave Newcastle United.

However, it remains to be seen if his departure results in a replacement being signed by Paul Mitchell.
The noises suggest that it might not, with Newcastle United not planning to replace Almiron this month. That is a risk, but one the club may feel is worth taking. That is evident by the fact that Newcastle rejected the chance to sign Takefusa Kubo from Real Sociedad.
But while Almiron’s exit might not lead to a major arrival on Tyneside, there could at least be some incoming business.
That is according to the i Paper, who report that while Newcastle’s stance on signing a first-team player might change, the club are currently more likely to sign a young player with potential.
Newcastle United taking long-term transfer approach
Newcastle are taking a big risk if they let Almiron go without replacing him. It leaves Eddie Howe short of attacking options, at a time when Harvey Barnes is injured, as well as Callum Wilson.
However, both players could be back next month, with Wilson hoping to return in the Carabao Cup semi-final.
It appears that Newcastle United are going to take a long-term approach, which is probably wise.
If they are going to invest in anyone, it will be a player who will not be expected to have an immediate impact at St James’ Park. Instead, it will be someone who can grow and develop on Tyneside in the coming years.
That kind of future-proofing is smart, despite Newcastle United having the opportunity to invest from a position of strength. The Magpies could enjoy a very special campaign, and a fresh face in January could push Eddie Howe’s side even closer to glory.
However, it looks like PSR will rob them of that opportunity, as Newcastle United prepare to play it safe.
