It has now been revealed by Sky Sports Germany that the attacker has an £18.6m release clause despite extending his contract until 2026 with Lyon.
The Toffees could pair Cherki up with their pursuit of Ernest Nuamah who Everton are confident in signing.

Premier League legend, Thierry Henry, has given the 21-year-old high praise in the past, putting an impressive claim on the winger.
Speaking back on March 18th in a press conference as France U21 manager, Henry, outlined why he didn’t call Cherki up to the France squad but didn’t deny his quality.
“He needs to show consistency because there is a huge difference between sometimes showing character and showing character all the time.
“I’m not talking about his quality, because I have never seen a player in history who dribbles as quickly as him, with both feet.”
It looks as though Nuamah is closing in on the Everton move, but Moyes arguably has a better alternative in Cherki.
