West Ham are actually among the six clubs least impacted by injuries this season.
The Hammers were the club with the fewest injuries until the festive period.
Since then they have lost Michail Antonio, Jarrod Bowen, Jean-Clair Todibo, Crysencio Summerville and Niclas Fullkrug once again.
It certainly showed in West Ham’s squad and the performance in the dismal 2-0 home defeat to Crystal Palace.
With a daunting run of fixtures on the horizon, the last thing new boss Graham Potter needs is to lose more players.
Konstantinos Mavropanos added to the headache by getting sent off for two yellow cards.
He will now miss the away trip to Aston Villa next weekend.
Cynics would say the Hammers are better off without the Greek defender given his propensity to make costly mistakes in every game.
But with Todibo out, it will likely mean two full-backs deputising either side of Max Kilman in a back five at Villa Park.
To make matters worse Lucas Paqueta, who had his best game for a year in the win over Fulham, was substituted with what looked like a groin injury.
The Brazilian was seen wincing and massaging his hip and groin area as he left the London Stadium pitch just 11 minutes into the second half.
Paqueta was largely anonymous and ineffective in the game.
But that really is the last thing West Ham and the new manager need right now.
Now Potter has shared an update on limping Paqueta amid the West Ham injury crisis.
Paqueta was replaced by misfit striker Danny Ings on 56 minutes.
In fairness to the 32-year-old he did try and lead by example with his effort levels.
But West Ham ended the game without registering a single shot on target as Palace triumphed 2-0.
The Hammers face Villa, Chelsea and Arsenal all away from home in three of their next four games.
So the prospect of Paqueta joining the others on the sidelines will not fill Hammers fans with much hope.
There is some welcome good news, though, it seems.
Because Potter has confirmed Paqueta has not suffered an injury and was simply running on empty.
“Lucas is fine,” Potter told West Ham’s website.
“I think he’s had two massive games in terms of the output that he’s had so it was always in our mind how long he could go and what the level of performance he was able to do because like I said he’s been brilliant in terms of how much he’s put into the game and the team performance.
“Today we looked a little bit leggy, a little bit short and that’s something we have to again look to improve.”
So there you have it West Ham fans, Paqueta is not injured and should be fine for Villa – against whom he scored in Potter’s first game in charge.
The message from stand-in captain Tomas Soucek was clear after the game.
He believes a full week of training under the new boss with no interruptions can only help.
“We have some time in training now, and I think we’ll see during the week what the manager’s main principles are,” Soucek told West Ham’s site.
“We need to keep going, and keep practicing, and I’m hopeful we’ll get there.”
Potter will also be hoping to welcome back Summerville at Villa Park, where he was playing so well until picking up the hamstring injury which saw him miss Fulham and Palace.
