Everton now have a trump card up their sleeves in their pursuit of Marcus Edwards during the winter transfer window.
Jaque Talbot reported via his personal X account on Tuesday (21 January) that the Toffees are interested in signing the right-sided winger from Sporting CP.
The Merseyside-based club have already enquired about signing the 26-year-old, with Ernest Nuamah now likely to stay at Lyon.
David Moyes’ side will be keen to avoid any hiccups if they step up their interest in Edwards and may have a Dominic Calvert-Lewin advantage.

Edwards has signed with Wasserman, the talent agency announced via their Instagram on Wednesday, 22 January. It is worth noting that Calvert-Lewin is also managed by the Los Angeles-based agency.
With Calvert-Lewin in the final six months of his contract, Everton will surely have had conversations with agents at Wasserman recently.
That means the Goodison Park outfit already have a pathway to sign Edwards for the second half of the season.
As per Transfermarkt, the former Tottenham ace was previously being managed by ARETE. He was one of their most valuable assets.
Often, players changing agencies suggest that they are keen to explore a move away from their current club. Moyes and Co will be delighted if that is the case with Edwards.
Edwards, who joined Sporting in January 2022, has seen his influence in the team wane in recent months, having been restricted to just 106 minutes of Liga Primeira action this season.
Therefore, a return to England could be on the cards for the England Under-20s international, with Everton expressing an interest in acquiring his services.
