The Hammers are in desperate need of a striker and are looking at Silva as an experienced options who knows the top levels of the game.

The Portuguese is yet to play in England, but has represented the likes of AC Milan, Porto and Sevilla – and has accumulated 53 international caps, scoring 19 goals.

The Irons have also been forced to cope without Jarrod Bowen for the introductory period of Graham Potter, though hopes are that the captain will imminently return.

The Hammers next face Aston Villa on 26 January in the Premier League at Villa Park, where Potter’s first game saw them knocked out of the FA Cup (10 January).
