The key reason why Miguel Almiron’s move away from Newcastle United is proving difficult
Miguel Almiron remains a Newcastle United player despite ongoing transfer reports.
Indeed, Almiron has been expected to leave Newcastle for what feels like an age now.

Newcastle are set to accept a bid for Almiron from Atlanta United but the 30-year-old remains at St James’ Park for the time being.
While the Paraguay international still could leave reasonably soon of course, the fact the move hasn’t yet gone through is reasonably interesting.
Newcastle fans paid tribute to Almiron with a banner in the crowd before the defeat to Bournemouth last weekend but, so far, there has been no official update as to what is happening.

Replying to a supporter on social media platform X about the lack of offers from other clubs for some of Newcastle’s squad players, Edwards revealed that Almiron’s wage demands have proven tricky for teams interested in the player.

Almiron’s wages are thought to be worth around £60k-per-week at Newcastle and his contract runs until the summer of 2026.
With that in mind, it’s hardly surprising to imagine teams from outside the monied Premier League bubble having concerns about such huge demands.

Almiron used to play for Atlanta of course but a return there may not be on his preferred option at this stage of his career.
In fact, Almiron is believed to want to stay in Europe should he leave Newcastle before the end of his contract.
Whether that is down to money of course remains to be seen but Almiron’s agent has also confirmed he doesn’t want to go back to South America either.
That limits his options, potentially leaving Newcastle in a state of limbo.
Having accepted a bid, it seems reasonable to assume Newcastle would be happy for Almiron to leave. Finding a suitable club for him, however, is another thing entirely.
