Bryan King has suggested Everton striker Dominic Calvert-Lewin could be ruled out until the end of February.
Calvert-Lewin was forced off with a suspected hamstring injury [Sky Sports News, 15:14] in the 1-0 Premier League win against Brighton at the AMEX Stadium on Saturday (25 January).
Speaking after the match, David Moyes’ reaction to the injury was that of “genuine concern” [via Joe Thomas, 25 January].
Therefore, ex-Goodison scout King – speaking exclusively to Goodison News – has speculated that Calvert-Lewin could be ruled out for at least a month.
“Calvert-Lewin would be a big miss for Everton,” King said.
“Especially considering the way they’ve played in the past two matches and the way he played in the win against Tottenham.
“All supporters can do is wait and see what the actual diagnosis is. If he has suffered a hamstring injury, Calvert-Lewin won’t be going anywhere, not until he is fit at least, and that might not be until the end of February.
“As a result, if he is going to leave the football club, it will be the end of the season now, which would see Everton lose out financially because his contract expires in June.”
Everton striker Dominic Calvert-Lewin to return in March?
If Calvert-Lewin isn’t fit again until the end of February, the 27-year-old might not return to the pitch until March, which would be a huge blow for Moyes and the Toffees.
Everton play six times between now and March, with huge games against the likes of Liverpool and Manchester United, as well as a fourth-round FA Cup clash to come in that time.
Therefore, Moyes will need all the help he can get, and if Calvert-Lewin is to be sidelined for an extended period, the club might need to dip into the transfer market – with a Premier League striker potentially available on loan.
Moyes has made a positive start to life back at Goodison Park.
However, without Calvert-Lewin, it could be difficult for the club to maintain their bright form.
