It has been clear from the start of the transfer window that Newcastle needed to sell players before making any signings. On deadline day, that is still the case but Newcastle will not see any arrivals despite selling two players that have been in and around the first-team this season.
Almiron left Newcastle for the MLS after six years at the club which should bag the Magpies around £11m and free up a sizable chunk of the wage bill.
Kelly leaving Newcastle looks like a great financial success seeing as the player only joined the club in the summer. Newcastle will bag £20m from Kelly’s Juventus move which is considered pure profit after he joined from Bournemouth on a free transfer.
Newcastle fans have cried out for signings, but it does not look like it will happen this window. The real reason why it will not happen has been revealed.

Why Newcastle will not spend Lloyd Kelly and Miguel Almiron money
Newcastle will be ending the window £30m better off than they were at the start of it. That money should be enough to sign a quality player for Eddie Howe who was keen to see at least one new face join the club in the window.
According to the Daily Mail, the club wants to maintain a solid position heading into the next PSR cycle. Newcastle sold Elliot Anderson and Yankuba Minteh because of lucrative spending in previous windows and do not want a repeat of that again.
The report also claims that Newcastle sporting director Paul Mitchell believes Almiron and Kelly’s sales give them a much greater chance of keeping the likes of Alexander Isak, Bruno Guimaraes and Anthony Gordon beyond this season.
Newcastle want to give Isak a new contract – talks between the club and the player are set to begin at the end of the season.
Howe must now make do with his current squad until the end of the season.

Newcastle set for summer PSR boost
While the winter transfer window has been an upsetting one for Newcastle fans, they should expect a much busier window in the summer.
Newcastle will receive a £73m PSR boost when their big spending from the 2021/22 season drops off. Howe signed several players during that window including Chris Wood for £25m.
The Magpies recouped a sizable amount of that money when he joined Nottingham Forest a year later but have lived to regret the sale as he now thrives under Nuno Espirito Santo.
Newcastle currently sit fifth in the Premier League which could be enough to get them back in the Champions League. European football could be a key part in Newcastle’s transfer business and for retaining players like Isak or Guimaraes.
Howe wanted to improve three positions, including the right wing in the transfer window but the funds have not been available to him. He will be in a much better position to sign the players he really wants in the summer.
