West Ham United are not expected to do any more business on the market before the 11pm transfer deadline on Monday, according to James Sharpe.
The Mail journalist reported via his personal X account (3 February) that barring anything “ridiculous” that could happen before their game against Chelsea, no more new faces will be arriving.
Evan Ferguson has arrived on loan from Brighton to bolster the forward line, while James Ward-Prowse has been recalled from Nottingham Forest to add another option in midfield.
“No more incomings at West Ham unless something ridiculous happens before the Chelsea game. I don’t think West Ham should be too disgruntled by the business today,” Sharpe wrote.
“Evan Ferguson on loan. Potter said he wanted players who were the ‘right fit’, he knows Ferguson well and it helps alleviate the striker injury crisis.
“James Ward-Prowse bolsters the midfield positions the club wanted to strengthen. He’s got bags of PL quality and experience and, therefore, isn’t a risk…and is a West Ham player anyway!
“Potter said he didn’t want the club to panic buy players for the sake of it as that can do more harm than good.”

While the Hammers’ midfield and attack were arguably the two most important places for the London Stadium outfit to strengthen in the winter window, it feels like they may have left themselves a bit short in centre-back.
At the moment, due to the injury sustained by Jean Clair-Todibo, Potter only has two fit centre-backs among his ranks with the likes of Aaron Cresswell and even Aaron Wan-Bissaka having to fill in at centre-back.
While the former of the two has been used in that position before, it feels like the Hammers would be a lot more stable if they’d brought in a natural centre-back who is a bit taller and perhaps stronger than the veteran defender.
While Ferguson’s arrival should help them out and help carry them out of their current rut, it’ll be interesting to see whether Potter ends up regretting not adding another centre-back to his squad by the end of the season.o
