Summer goal begins immediately: Tottenham have identified a key priority for their summer transfer plans.

Tottenham Hotspur have been backed to launch another assault for an England international during the summer after failing with a mega offer for him during the dying stages of the January window.

Tottenham fail in their efforts to sign another centre-back

Spurs ended the transfer window with a bang, securing a loan deal for Mathys Tel with an option to buy him permanently for £45.7m, but there was one disappointment at the North London club when the window slammed shut.

Despite their efforts, the Lilywhites were unable to bring another centre-back through the door, with Axel Disasi reportedly rejecting a move to N17 in favour of joining Aston Villa on loan.

It was even claimed on Monday that Tottenham launched a club-record offer for Marc Guehi, but Crystal Palace turned down the offer as they did not want to lose a key player in the dying stages of the window.

The Guardian have now also confirmed that Spurs made a mammoth offer for the Palace star, thought to be worth £70m including bonuses, but the bid was not enough to convince Oliver Glasner’s men to sell the player.

The outlet points out that Guehi, who has 18 months left on his contract at Selhurst Park, was also of interest to Chelsea in January, while Newcastle United and Liverpool are also named as long-term admirers of the England defender.

The publication adds that Ange Postecoglou‘s men ‘will try again’ to secure a deal for Guehi at the end of the season when the centre-back will have just a year left on his deal with the Eagles.
