Throughout January, various outlets reported that Spurs were one of several clubs monitoring Cunha’s situation at Wolves, with a few sources stating that Ange Postecoglou’s men are admirers of the 25-year-old.
In the end, the forward stayed put at Molineux Stadium and he has since put pen to paper on a new contract at the club.
However, it has now emerged that the deal comes with a release clause, which can be activated in the summer, a detail that might interest Tottenham and the player’s other suitors.
Cunha’s contract has a release clause
This update comes from The Telegraph, who claim that Cunha‘s new four-and-a-half-year deal has a clause that allows him to depart the Midlands club for £62.5m in the summer.
That would represent a club-record transfer fee for Wolves, and if Tottenham were to pay it for Matheus Cunha, it would just fall short of the £65m they spent last summer on Dominic Solanke.
However, interestingly, The Telegraph claims that while the Wolves star is on the radar of a few Premier League sides none of them launched an enquiry about the player during the January window.
