Former Aston Villa star Jack Grealish discussed by England’s Thomas Tuchel
It is unknown what could have been had Jack Grealish stayed at Aston Villa. Instead, he went to Manchester City, hoping to be a part of the dynamic, trophy-winning side that Pep Guardiola had finely tuned.
As fans have seen, that period of the club has come to an end. Instead, a seismic shift is expected, and the old guard at City is expected to be forced out, and the club will have to enter some form of a rebuild.
While preparing for England’s World Cup qualifier against Andorra, the new Three Lions boss, Thomas Tuchel, spoke on the former Villa player. In his comments, he shared that he admired what Grealish can bring to a side.
The England manager went on to commend Grealish for his fearlessness in big moments. In particular, he compared how he will seemingly rise up and enhance his play on big occasions. Compared to others who can find the big stage at times to be too big and too much to handle.
What had to come up, of course, is the lack of playing time. Grealish, when he is in form and at his best, is someone who would make this England squad and be able to help the team make a deep run in a given tournament.
It has been some time, however, since leaving Villa and seeing regular time on the pitch and seeing him shine at the level that made City want to add him to their squad in the first place. Now, it looks as if Grealish will not even make the bench for the upcoming Club World Cup.
It is highly possible that Grealish could come back to Villa, get back in the swing of things, and become a regular England call-up. After all, Unai Emery seems to have a knack for rejuvenating players and their careers.
Why an Aston Villa reunion is unlikely
That being said, Grealish’s time at the club was magnificent. When he left for City, however, that was a permanent departure from the Villa side, at least as a player. Some would be willing to welcome him back and would do so with open arms.
As things stand now, that chapter is closed, and wherever Grealish goes to find his form again, it will be elsewhere.
