Did Barcelona really want Marcus Rashford? Deco reveals all about transfer talk

Barcelona were heavily linked with a move for Marcus Rashford in the January transfer window after the forward was exiled at Manchester United.

Rashford was said to be eager to play for the Catalans but a deal failed to materialise and he ended up sealing a loan move to Aston Villa instead.

Deco has now told Diario Sport that Barcelona did think about Rashford but certainly weren’t desperate to bring him in during the winter window.

“The winter market is always difficult, it is true that in the past there were important moments for Barça, such as the arrival of Davids, but there is no Davids available today in the market,” he said.

“It’s difficult because the good players, the ones who can contribute, are not available. It’s true that there was talk of Rashford, who could have come, but we weren’t desperately looking for a player either.

“We knew that we were recovering players, that others were going to reach their best version. If I had been able to come it would have been fine, but it was not a priority.”

Rashford will now be hoping to resurrect his career with Villa. The loan deal does include a purchase option, meaning the move could be made permanent.
