Newcastle United fans are in complete shock after ‘pathetic’ club announcement
Newcastle United fans have the chance to commemorate qualifying for the Carabao Cup final.
The Magpies are heading to Wembley in March, as Newcastle United face Liverpool in the Carabao Cup final.
It will be quite the battle between Eddie Howe and Arne Slot. The former is aiming to end Newcastle United’s trophy drought, while the latter is aiming to win his first piece of silverware since replacing Jurgen Klopp at Anfield.
For Newcastle United fans, it is an incredible occasion. Trips to Wembley have not been common, but the Magpies are returning to the scene of their heartbreak of 2023. They lost in the Carabao Cup final to Manchester United two years ago, but Newcastle will approach this final differently as they aim to learn from their crushing experience.

Newcastle United fans react to ‘special edition’ Carabao Cup final shirt
To mark their return to Wembley, Newcastle United are giving supporters the chance to purchase a special first-team shirt and training shirt.
The special edition shirts say ‘Carabao Cup final, Liverpool v Newcastle United, 16 March 2025, Wembley Stadium’, and will be worn by Eddie Howe’s players next month.
But supporters will be able to buy their own ahead of the game, much to the shock of some fans on X. There has been a very negative response on social media, with fans seeing it as celebrating just getting to the final, rather than going there to win.
One supporter wrote on X: “Maybe wait and see if we win it? Our downfall in the last cup final was it felt like we’d already won something just getting there. You win nothing with that mentality.”

A second fan added: “This seems unwise. A little bit tinpot if truth be told. If we win fair enough, but if we don’t you’ll be paying 90 quid for something you wouldn’t want to buff your shoes with.”
“This is so tinpot man,” wrote another fan who had a similar view.
A fourth member of the Toon Army summed it up well, posting: “Must be mad wanting to buy this pre-final. It’ll be absolutely worthless if we lose.”
Another Newcastle fan thinks it is ‘tinpot’, writing: “If Newcastle win, then yes by all means sell this. But to release this top a month before the final has even taken place is really pathetic. It’s so ‘tinpot’.”
Finally, this supporter asked an important question: “Anyone know if a return policy applies?”

Newcastle United once again aim to increase their revenue
If Newcastle United were the 2025 Carabao Cup champions and did this then fair enough. It would be a smart decision, as supporters would be desperate to have something physical to commemorate winning a trophy.
The club would make a lot of money selling those shirts, as they continue to try and increase their revenue and improve their PSR position. While a few shirts are not going to move the needle in terms of PSR, every little helps.
But selling the shirts before the final feels like a mistake, in a season in which Newcastle United already released multiple additional kits. Adidas recently reissued the 1995-97 home shirt, while there was also the Adidas Originals jersey.
