‘Kieran Trippier to leave Newcastle’ – Fans rage after Man City clash

Kieran Trippier has been told to prepare for a move away by Newcastle United fans after what happened during his side’s clash with Man City.

The Magpies may have sensed an opportunity when they travelled to the Etihad on Saturday (15 February) to face a Man City side still reeling from their collapse against Real Madrid in the Champions League.

However, it was the Pep Guardiola‘s side who quickly took control of that game, as a hat-trick from Omar Marmoush put the hosts 3-0 up inside the opening 33 minutes.

The first of those goals though came after a moment that Trippier and any Newcastle fans will want to forget.

That opening goal for Marmoush came from a direct route, as the Egyptian latched on to a long ball forward from goalkeeper Ederson, before lobbing it over Martin Dubravka.

Trippier though, was responsible for that to a considerable extent, having misjudged the bounce of the ball badly inside the Newcastle half.

That had left the Man City forward free to race in on goal before applying the finishing touch to put his side into an early lead.

Speaking on BBC Sport, Chris Sutton had described the moment as both “terrible judgement” and “terrible defending” from Trippier.

Many Newcastle supporters shared that opinion, with many suggesting that the right-back’s time with the Magpies should be coming to an end.

It has been claimed that Trippier turned down a move to Turkish side Galatasaray late in the winter transfer window as he feels he still has a part to play at Newcastle.

However, after what happened in the lead-up to the first goal of Marmoush’s hat-trick, it seems most supporters of the club would prefer for him to move on.

Taking to X to react to the right-back’s role as their side went behind, some Newcastle fans suggested it was time for Trippier to be dropped from the starting XI.

Others went even further by claiming that a sale should be coming for the 34-year-old after his “embarrassing” work, with one telling him “pack your bags”.

Trippier had 1 good game and everyone thought he was Phillip Lahm. He’s a liability.

Trippier was indeed substituted to be replaced at half-time by Tino Livramento, capping a difficult afternoon for the right-back.

That scoreline will have been particularly frustrating for Eddie Howe’s side, given this match represented a chance for them to steal a march on Man City in the race for a Champions League place.
