Liverpool’s interest in Newcastle United striker Alexander Isak is “genuine” and “very strong”, sources have told Football Insider.
Reds boss Arne Slot is keen to land an upgrade on Darwin Nunez and Diogo Jota this summer – and does not see Luis Diaz as the long-term central striker option.
Sources say Isak, 25, is seen as “perfect” for Liverpool by Slot and the club’s recruitment team despite his £100million-plus price tag.
Liverpool believe the Sweden international fuses the physicality, movement and speed of Nunez with the finishing and nous of Jota.

Isak is the top centre-forward choice for Liverpool as they draw up plans for the upcoming summer transfer window.
The Newcastle talisman has banged in 19 goals and supplied five assists in 28 appearances across all competitions for Eddie Howe’s side this term and spearheaded the team to the League Cup final, where they play Liverpool next month.

He scored in eight consecutive Premier League appearances between early December and mid-January.

Isak is under contract at St James’ Park until June 2028 having yet to sign an extension since joining Newcastle from Real Sociedad in 2022.
Football Insider revealed earlier this month (7 February) that Howe’s side are well positioned to offer him a Newcastle extension during the summer.
Liverpool could sell Darwin Nunez and Diogo Jota this summer
Jota is attracting interest from Arsenal but Football Insider revealed on 11 February that Liverpool would prefer to sell Nunez.
However, Liverpool are frustrated with the Portugal international’s injury record after his bouts of unavailability in recent seasons.
The Reds signing Isak would represent a huge refresh of their striking options with one of the world’s leading forwards heading to Anfield.
