James Maddison sent a heartwarming message via social media to Son Heung-min after Tottenham beat Manchester United on Sunday.

The attacking midfielder scored the only goal of the game as Ange Postecoglou‘s side claimed their second Premier League win in a row at Hotspur Way on 16 February.

Son started alongside him on the left flank, and while his performances have been heavily criticised of late, the South Korean made an important impact as captain.

All three points saw the Lilywhites rise to 12th in the Premier League table, leapfrogging their opponents, and the squad are clearly behind Son despite mounting pressure from ever-expecting Tottenham supporters.

Having created the most chances of anyone on the pitch, Man United might have been lucky to lose by just a single goal, though Alejandro Garnacho missed his fair share of opportunities.

Posting via his Instagram story, Maddison posted an image of him embracing his teammate during the clash with the caption: “My captain,” with a white love heart.

It was the 28-year-old’s first appearance since the dramatic 3-2 win over Hoffenheim last month, having joined some of his fellow teammates on the treatment table recently.

The clash against the Red Devils saw Postecoglou welcome back more than just Maddison, with Guglielmo Vicario, Destiny Udogie, Brennan Johnson and Wilson Odobert also returning.

While several big stars are still absent, such as Cristian Romero, Dominic Solanke, Richarlison and Micky van de Ven, it was an incredible boost to have some more experienced players back to full fitness.

Radu Dragusin and Timo Werner still being sidelined has made things incredibly difficult for the manager but Spurs chairman Daniel Levy has kept the faith in Postecoglou, or at least decided not to pull the trigger just yet.

Only three teams in the division boasting more goals this season, meaning hitting the back of the net this season, but having Vicario and Udogie back in the same week is huge news for the under-pressure manager.

And Son finally looked back to his best against Ruben Amorim’s men, another big boost for Postecoglou, with his confidence and leadership surely enough to push Spurs to success.
