Kieran Trippier was among the heroes as Newcastle United booked a return to Wembley.
Newcastle United made light work of Arsenal to reach a second Carabao Cup final in two years, with Eddie Howe’s side set to make the journey down to the national stadium in March.
Indeed, Newcastle beat Arsenal 2-0 on Wednesday night which racked up a 4-0 aggregate victory in the two-legged semi-final.
Eddie Howe made a tactical tweak and, thankfully, it worked wonders.
Howe changed Newcastle’s formation to a five-man defence, replacing the injured Joelinton with an added central defender in the form of Sven Botman.
That worked a treat, as did the inclusion of Kieran Trippier.
Trippier has struggled for game time all season but was fantastic throughout, underlining his quality. It’s not been easy for the former England defender but that was a statement of intent.
Bruno Guimaraes was particularly impressed.

Bruno Guimaraes reacts to Kieran Trippier’s performance for Newcastle United against Arsenal
After the game, Trippier took to social media platform Instagram to caption a collage of images: “Nights like these! Unbelievable performance and support tonight. Newcastle are going to Wembley.”
In response, Guimaraes wrote: “Te amo [I love you].”
Given the fact Trippier reportedly wants to leave Newcastle too, that was some statement. He used all his experience and looked the player of old, the captain who drove Newcastle forward during the first 18 months or so of his Newcastle career.

Trippier was a resolute defensive presence throughout the game, proving Howe right in his decision to drop Tino Livramento.
The veteran ranked within Newcastle’s top five players for tackles, interceptions, clearances and blocks during the game.

Despite his relative fall from grace recently, sections of Newcastle fans don’t want Trippier to leave.
If he can keep producing like that, it’s easy to see why.
