Napoli striker Romelu Lukaku has explained how he feel’s he was unjustly treated at Manchester United and Everton earlier in his career.

Lukaku currently plies his trade for Napoli in Serie A after joining them in a €30m move in the summer to reunite with Antonio Conte.

They are the latest club in what has been a varied career to date that’s seen him play for Anderlecht, Chelsea, West Brom, Everton, Manchester United, Inter Milan and Roma as well.

He’s scored goals at all of those clubs but particularly at Everton, where he managed 87 goals in 166 games and became their top goal scorer in the Premier League era.

His performances at Goodison Park eventually earned him ab €84.7m move to Manchester United but he was less successful at Old Trafford, with a record of 42 goals in 96 games before being sold to Inter Milan.

Indeed, his time in England can be considered something of a mixed bag given his two disappointing spells at Chelsea as well, with the striker having fared much better in Italy overall.

Despite the goals he has always been a player who courts attention and often criticism, something he admits he felt was out of line at both Everton and Manchester United.

“I am a religious person, and God always tells us that you have to forgive, but I don’t forget,” he said.

“That’s why I don’t give certain media any attention, I don’t even wish them a look. Sometimes you pay a price for that, but I don’t care. I’m not going to kiss someone’s hole to be loved.

“I remember my first game with Manchester United, the Supercup against Real Madrid. I scored but we lost and there was an opportunity I missed. We played the next game against West Ham, and I scored twice, and in the next game I scored again.

“But it was always ‘yes, but …’. I don’t get any respect. Then I knew that whatever happened, people would look at me with suspicion.

“Even with Everton, when I said I didn’t want to sign, that was a problem. “Why would I leave?” It sounded. Why would I be able to play Champions League elsewhere?

“That summer I could go to two clubs, and I chose that one because I wanted to play in the Champions League and win prizes. What is the problem with wanting to win prizes? If someone else does that, there is no problem.”
