Newcastle manager Eddie Howe revealed some extra details about Alexander Isak’s injury after his side’s loss to Liverpool.
Isak unexpectedly missed out on the Magpies’ trip to Anfield, not being named in the squad at all for the game.
The news came out of nowhere, with the club confirming that their star striker was sidelined with a groin problem.
That’s concerning for Newcastle as they have a meeting with Arne Slot’s side again in the Carabao Cup final coming up.
But Howe, who admitted his team is weaker without Isak, doesn’t believe he is going to be out for very long.
“It goes without saying how important he [Isak] is for us, and you could see that,” he said post-match.
“It was a late decision, he just didn’t feel right with his groin. He didn’t want to take the risk and we have big games coming up.
“We certainly hope he will be back for the final; we don’t envisage it as a big thing.”
