Beto couldn’t build on his recent form for Everton in their draw at Brentford on Wednesday, and one incident left Danny Murphy in disbelief.
Everton went into the match at the Gtech Community Stadium unbeaten in their last six Premier League matches, but had to come back from behind through Jake O’Brien after Yoane Wissa’s first-half opener.

Brentford, however, were lucky not to be at least 1-0 down by the time of Wissa’s close-range header, with the in-form Beto having spurned two glorious opportunities to give Everton the lead earlier on.
Though the Guinea-Bissau international had netted five goals in his last four matches prior to kick-off, he couldn’t capitalise after a slip by Ethan Pinnock, and saw a close-range effort saved by Mark Flekken.

Beto blunder leaves Murphy in shock after Brentford v Everton
Beto’s first opportunity for Everton in West London should arguably have yielded the first goal of the game, but after leaving Pinnock behind, the Blues striker tried to go around Flekken rather than shoot.
Beto’s decision not to let fly despite being one-on-one with the stranded Brentford keeper left Danny Murphy absolutely baffled, and speaking on Match of the Day (26 February), he gave his verdict.
Murphy said: “You can sense that Everton’s confidence is growing. This little bit of quality when they win the ball back, calmness to play the right passes, and Beto – he’s full of confidence at the minute.
“I know there’s a slip there, but when he gets up here you expect him to score after recent [performances]. I don’t know what he’s trying to do really, it’s the wrong decision.”

Beto and Everton to bounce back from Brentford stalemate
Though David Moyes will be disappointed that his side couldn’t pick up a fifth win from their last seven matches, but extending their unbeaten run to that number of games is certainly nothing to be sniffed at.
Going seven unbeaten is by far Everton’s longest such streak this season and helps move them even further away from the Premier League’s bottom three, with their gap to the drop zone now 15 points.
