Everton and Aston Villa set for transfer battle over ‘complete’ defender likened to Antonio Rudiger
The new owners have made an impressive start so far, having had their feet under the table for a couple of months now.
TFG have been fairly measured in their approach and so far, it has paid off.
The most significant decision they have made was the appointment of David Moyes, after Sean Dyche told The Friedkin Group he was done at Everton.
It wasn’t a decision they particularly wanted to make, as they were prepared to give Dyche a bit more time.
But they acted decisively to bring Moyes back and so far, it’s been an inspired appointment.
Moyes is set to receive a healthy transfer budget this summer, with PSR not set to be an issue this time around.
And it looks like Everton have eyes on a highly rated young talent.
Everton interested in Joel Ordonez transfer but face Aston Villa competition
It has been reported by Alan Nixon via his Patreon that Everton are showing interest in Club Brugge defender Joel Ordonez.
Ordonez has been impressing with the Belgian outfit in recent times, having made his first-team debut for the club in 2023.
The talented 20-year-old has been building his experience, and this term he played in all 10 of Club Brugge’s Champions League games, not missing a single minute.
He’s certainly been busy at the back, as he leads the way for clearances attempted in the competition so far (57).
Interestingly, Brugge are still in the Champions League and actually face Villa next in their Round of 16 match, giving Unai Emery a chance to see him up close.
Villa are said to be ‘desperate’ to sign Ordonez, who is valued at £40 million, so Everton potentially have a tough battle on their hands. But Everton are said to be ready to make a big offer in the summer.
Ordonez is also a fixture with the Ecuador national team, having made his international debut last year. He has accrued four caps so far.

Everton target Joel Ordonez is like Antonio Rudiger
It will be interesting to see what happens with Ordonez this summer with the South American already catching the eye of several clubs.
Everton will need to be in the market for a new central defender, because Michael Keane is expected to leave when his contract expires.
That would leave just Jarrad Branthwaite, Jake O’Brien – who is currently playing as a right-back – and James Tarkowski, who is 32.
Ordonez could be a really exciting signing, as he has already been compared to Real Madrid defender Antonio Rudiger for the way he defends.

Kulig lists Ordonez as being strong in the following areas; pace, power, tackling, anticipation, bravery, athleticism and heading.
Kulig again talked up Ordonez on X in January of this year, stating he has a ‘complete profile’ for his age.
Now that Ordonez has more experience under his belt, he has developed his game and could well be ready to make a step up from playing for Brugge.
