Tyrone Mings produced an incredible goal-line clearance for Aston Villa against Club Brugge in the Champions League.
Tyrone Mings produced a genuinely insane piece of defending to prevent a certain Club Brugge goal in the Champions League round of 16 first leg on Tuesday.
In just his third Champions League appearance, Mings set up Aston Villa’s opener with a smart knock-down for Leon Bailey to smash home – before Maxim De Cuyper levelled matters for the Belgian outfit just nine minutes later.
The home side, who beat Villa 1-0 in the Champions League group phase, thought they had gone 2-1 up in the second half when captain Hans Vanaken peeled to the far post and headed the ball down towards goal.
But just as it was bouncing into the net, Mings somehow managed to hook it behind for a corner while on the stretch.
Ally McCoist called it “the save of the season” and “unbelievable” on commentary, with many fans astonished as to how Mings kept the header out and calling it the best goal-line clearance in history.
Vanaken was equally stunned at Mings’ heroics and the fact that his side were denied a corner kick as the referee did not see the touch.
Back in November, against the same opposition and on the same ground, Mings conceded one of the most bizarre penalties in Champions League history when he was penalised for handball after picking up the ball and placing it on the six-yard line to take the goal-kick.
Vanaken scored the resulting penalty but on Tuesday Mings produced a truly incredible piece of defending and a contribution which proved vital.

A third added: “Back in November, Tyrone Mings gave away a penalty against Club Brugge for picking the ball up, it proved to be the only goal in a 1-0 defeat. Tonight, against the same side, he’s pulled off this clearance with the scores locked at 1-1.”
