Masters gave Everton a ten-point deduction which left fans in disbelief at the severity of the punishment, as no one is questioning the Toffees breaking the rules.

A deduction of ten-points made it the harshest in the league’s history, surpassing Portsmouth’s in 2010, for overspending by just £19m.

Well, now, Masters has made a vital error that sees Manchester City come off positively regarding the 115 charges case and will leave Everton fans fuming.

It still brings controversy to this day, as Masters seemed to handle the whole situation terribly.

You’d expect a relationship between a club who have never been relegated from the top flight to be a strong one, but Masters called Everton a small club detailing how much he actually knows about the Toffees’ history.

It’s safe to say that Masters won’t be welcome around the Blue side of Merseyside, and a recent revelation will heighten this.

In an interview with the Financial Times, Masters revealed that if City is found to have breached the rules, the independent panel ‘will not decide on sanctions’; this will come in a separate process, and Pep Guardiola’s side will have the ‘right to appeal’ before the sanction is made.

This will bring so much frustration from Everton, as when the Toffees were charged in November 2023, Everton never got the right to appeal before sanctioning, only after the deduction was given.

Baffling.

Masters on the criticism he’s received from Everton fans

Evertonians have every right to be fuming with Masters who has handled his job role poorly.

Of course, Everton were in the wrong to breach the rules, but with City now looking likely to get away with the chance to appeal, it seems like a case of ‘one rule for me, another for you’.

Evertonians believe the Premier League is corrupt as Masters responded in the same interview with his views on if the criticism is warranted after the charges.

“I don’t enjoy it… You just have to let it pass through you and move on,” Masters said.

The ongoing debate continues, and who knows what will happen with City, but Masters has got a lot to answer for with angry Everton fans ready and waiting.
